Take a Spring Break Swing Break with the straight-ahead jazz sounds of bassist/vocalist David Higginbotham and his all-star band, March 22nd at South on Main. The show starts at 8pm, with a $10 cover and will showcase music from his latest CD release ‘Blues on the Corner’, a collection of jazz standards with vocals and original lyrics to titles like ‘Blues on the Corner’, ‘Doxy’ and ‘Scrapple from the Apple’. The high energy band will feature local jazz virtuosos Brandon Dorris on tenor sax, Chris Parker piano and Paul Stivitts on drums.
David Higginbotham is one of central Arkansas’ most renowned upright bassists and vocalists. While still in high school he toured with the rock band Gibraltar and played shows with Pat Benatar, Pure Prairie League, The Guess Who and Styx. He’s been a member of music store icon Bob Boyd’s band, the Bob Boyd Sounds, for more than two decades. He plays for many of the Broadway shows at Robinson Music Hall like ‘Wicked’, ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Chicago’, and will be playing for ‘Beautiful, the Carol King Show’ in May.
‘Blues on the Corner’ is his 2nd recording as a leader, following his solo release debut ‘This is my Heart’ (2008) on which David wrote the songs, played all the instruments and sang all the vocal parts.
