ABOUT THE BAND
Katrice " Butterfly" Newbill, from New Orleans, LA, has been singing for more than 30 years professionally and is known for her vocal range and energy. Butterfly's father Amen Ra East, a producer for CBS Records, keyboardist and songwriter exposed her to music at an early age and began to groom her for the stage. Butterfly has performed on main stages all over the world, besides touring with her all female reggae band The Irie Dawta's, based out of New Orleans. She has opened up for several artists such as Shaggy, Steel Pulse, Ziggy Marley, Pato Banton, Eek A Mouse, Chante Moore, The Wailers, YellowMan along with several others. She has done professional background vocals for Grammy Award Winner Pato Banton, The Batiste Brothers, Chairmaine Neville, Ndea Davenport (Brand New Heavies), Method Man, Irma Thomas to name a few. She also has produced and co-wrote songs for TV Series Dark Angel, a host of Radio jingles that are still used in the city of New Orleans currently and other projects including Jason Neville, Trombone Shorty, George Clinton, Judah Clan, and more. She has performed stage plays The life of Mahalia Jackson, Porgy and Bess (Opera) and more.
After Hurricane Katrina, the devastation and untimely death of her Mother, Father, and Aunt, Butterfly relocated to Little Rock and started a band called Irie Soul. The band once known to be a reggae band has since changed and does a host and variety and different genres to feature Butterfly in her full element inclusive of Reggae, RB, Old School, New Orleans 2nd Line Music and more. The band includes Michael Sinclair, Rick Horton, Marlon Davis, Crystal Hayes and special guest guitarist John Burnette. Butterfly's mission is to spread love and unity thru the power of music and what you get is a true performer that represents each and every time. Music is powerful and heals.
